Licensed investigators

Find a licensed investigator

The tools above stop where the law starts. Credit-header records, license plate sightings, court sweeps across counties and asset searches need a licensed private investigator. Investigators are licensed by each state or province, so pick where the work is to reach the official body that lists them.

Before you hire
  • Check the license number with the official body for that state or province.
  • Ask for proof of liability insurance.
  • Get the scope, price and timeline in writing.
  • Expect them to ask why you need the information. A licensed investigator has to confirm a lawful purpose before searching restricted records, so one who doesn't ask is a red flag.
